It Pays to Comparison Shop For Shower Head Water Filters
Shower head water filters can be an important component of your daily health and beauty regimen. By blocking chlorine and other harsh chemicals, shower head filters contribute to softer shinier hair and younger looking healthier skin.
It was the cosmetic benefits that originally caused the popularity of water filters for shower heads. They came on the market about ten years ago. As a new and growing industry, there are lots of new companies "jumping on the bandwagon". It's always a good idea to do some comparative shopping, before you buy.
As with other types of products that require frequent replacement of specific parts, you want to choose a company that has been in business for a while. You also want to be confident that they will "stay" in business.
In order to be effective, the water filters for shower heads must be replaced regularly. If the company that you choose to deal with goes out of business, you could be left with just a shower head, something that you probably already have. Because the designs are different, one companies replacement filters will not fit that of another.
Also, since it is a new industry, it is somewhat unregulated. There are not a lot of government regulations concerning shower head water filters. The better companies have their products certified by underwriter's laboratory or other similar organizations. But, certification is strictly voluntary.
In some states, companies that sell shower head filters are required to include product performance data, along with other information. But, depending on where you live or where the company is located, performance data may not be readily available.
Without certified performance data, you have to take the company's "word for it". Most of the leading brands try to instill confidence in their customers by voluntarily publishing information concerning their products.
For example, Wellness shower head water filters are certified to reduce chlorine, VOCs and THMs by at least 90%, while also reducing lead and copper by 70%. On the other hand, Paragon shower head filters block only chlorine, and only by about 50%.
Wellness claims that their unique technology makes their products more effective and worth the extra cost ($249 retail), but there are other effective water filters for shower heads. Another product that we looked at does the same job that Wellness does, but at less than a third of the cost ($67.99).
Consumers digest gave the less expensive shower head filters an "A" rating. Its performance ranks right up there with the more expensive products.
The point is that shower head water filters are a good investment, but just be sure to do a little homework before you buy. You can spend less and get the most effective product, if you just do a little comparison shopping.
Wellness Shower -ionization is a natural process occurring as a result of particle collisions, during which a molecule has gained or lost an electron. The first group is called "negative ions" (beneficial for health); whereas the latter is known as "positive ions" (harmful to humans).
